22 Upcoming MMO Games And MMORPGs Releasing In 2024 (So Far)

Nothing is guaranteed these days when it comes to MMO development, but here are some MMOs and MMORPGs you can look forward to possibly releasing in one form or another in 2024. If even a handful of these games actually make their debut in 2024 it's shaping up to be one hell of a year.

Throne and Liberty

Already released in Korea, the rest of the world should be getting its hands on Throne and Liberty sometime in 2024. T&L has seen quite a few changes to the game since it made its beta debut, with updates to combat and the removal of the autoplay system. This MMORPG looks much more promising for players in the West now.

Blue Protocol

Another game to be published by Amazon Games in North America, Blue Protocol promises a dynamic action combat system and deep character customization. It's billed as a free-to-play action RPG where you explore the lands of Magna to discover secrets, uncover the truth about your origins, and save the planet.

Dune: Awakening

If you're looking for the next big survival MMO, Funcom has your back with Dune: Awakening. Set in the universe of Frank Herbert's Dune series and utilizing many of the lessons learned from Funcom's other survival MMO, Conan Exiles, Dune Awakening has caught the attention of a lot of gamers who are anxiously awaiting the yet to be announced release date.

Corepunk

Corepunk mixes the MOBA playstyle with an MMO world that looks like it could be quite a lot of fun. You'll be playing this one from a top-down perspective and the fog-of-war will have you exploring every nook and cranny on the map. Corepunk recently concluded its first public alpha test and should be shooting for a 2024 release.

Hytale

For fans of Minecraft, Hytale could be an MMO to look out for. They are looking to combine the scope of a sandbox with the depth of a roleplaying game in order to immerse players into their procedurally generated world. You can create your world block by block, create minigames, and more using their toolset. Development of this game went quiet for a few months this year, but the Winter 2023 Development Update seems to have them right on track.

Past Fate

Past Fate is an upcoming open-world MMORPG where player freedom is the main focus. Explore the world's continents and islands, set sail on the treacherous seas, and recruit your own crew to assist you in naval combat. Past Fate promises a huge world to explore. Players will have to defend their Kingdoms from others and slay powerful enemies to survive.

Eternal Tombs (formerly War of Dragnorox)

Eternal Tombs is an MMORPG that will be run by live game masters who will help shape the player experience by running live events and making changes to the world. It sounds like quite an interesting experience and somewhat of a bucket list item to experience.

Chrono Odyssey

Scheduled for an early 2024 release date, Chrono Odyssey is coming to PC and Console. Explore new regions and take on formidable foes. Players will wield the power to control space-time, making for an interesting way to interact with the world around you and discover the mysteries of the lands. Chrono Odyssey looks amazing and hopefully it can deliver the gameplay depth to match.

Ares: Rise of Guardians

Another Korean import we're waiting on, Ares: Rise of Guardians is a sci-fi MMORPG set in a near-future universe. Already available for South Korean players on PC and Android, we're still waiting on more information about a Western launch of the game.

Havenhold (formerly Starkeepers)

In Havenhold, you play as one of the Astrals - high-dimensional beings capable of space-time magic roaming the universe. Havenhold is the rebrand of Starkeepers, and promises a seasonal conquest MMO experience. Fight for power, control, and domination of the land. There will be a large world to explore with emerging ruins. You'll fight rival factions and establish the ultimate Havenhold.

Path of Exile 2

You probably don't need us to hype you up for Path of Exile 2. It's done a great job of that all on its own. The much anticipated sequel is high on many players' wish lists and rightfully so. Path of Exile has garnered universal praise for its deep gameplay and fair monetization practices, so we expect nothing less from the sequel.

Pax Dei

The initial trailer release of Pax Dei generated a ton of buzz on the internet and left many players longing to get their hands on this upcoming MMORPG. Built in the Unreal 5 engine, Pax Dei looks amazing and will offer a social sandbox where you can build a home, craft your weapons, and go to war. Testing done this year has had positive feedback, too, so we can't wait for a full release.

Nightingale

#1 on my personal hype list right now, Nightingale is an upcoming survival crafting MMO featuring gameplay across dimensions of time and reality. You will need to build, craft, and explore fantastical alternate worlds via the arcane portal network. Cut off from your home world, it is up to you to survive.

Soulframe

Here's another one many of us are anxiously awaiting. Soulframe is a fantasy MMORPG coming from the developers of Warframe, a game that has quite a positive reputation as one of the premier free-to-play games out there. We don't know a ton of information about Soulframe just yet, but that should be remedied over the coming year.

Tarisland

China's answer to World of Warcraft, Tarisland has seen a series of betas that have shed quite a bit of light on what to expect. So what can you expect? Well, a WoW clone of course. Tarisland will be available on PC and mobile devices. It's a traditional MMORPG experience that many players will want to experience.

The Quinfall

A medieval MMORPG with an immersive story and dozens of different professions, The Quinfall is slated to release in January 2024. The game promises dynamic combat, ship battles, island skirmishes, and castle sieges. Overall it sounds pretty exciting. Hopefully, the team can deliver a quality product.

ArcheAge 2

While we still have to be wary of the types of monetization in its predecessor, ArcheAge 2 is hitting all the same notes that caused the initial hype for the first ArcheAge MMO. The game looks gorgeous, the gameplay systems are dynamic and interesting, and overall ArcheAge 2 looks very appealing...but those darn microtransactions worry us.

Pioner

Pioner is an upcoming first-person shooter set in an open world. There will be PvE and PvP modes available, and night and day should see changes in enemy behavior and the types of enemies encountered. Players will build relationships with factions, and fighting against other players will take place in special arenas.

BitCraft

BitCraft is a massively multiplayer community sandbox game where players work together to build a new civilization in a single, editable wilderness with an ancient past. BitCraft’s gameplay emphasizes skilling, building, crafting, farming, trading, and exploring, empowering players to cultivate a sheltered village with their friends or establish impressive cities and empires.

Ashfall

Ok...this one's had a bit of a rocky start, so we'll have to see how it pans out. Initial reveals weren't all that well received. Set in the apocalypse following a nuclear war with AI, Ashfall is set to release in Q3 of 2024. Ashfall will feature a rich storyline, diverse equipment, and a robust talent system. Dual wild machineguns or go stealth style, there are plenty of ways to approach combat.

Once Human

A multiplayer open-world survival game, Once Human is set in a post-apocalyptic future. I love the macabre setting of Once Human. Everything has been infested by an alien creature, transforming the flora and fauna into something dark and twisted. You'll need to manage your sanity while out in the world trying to survive.

Reign of Guilds

Coming into its 6th playtest, Reign of Guilds is an MMORPG set in a dark, magical, middle ages. Reign of Guilds promises a large open world, castle sieges, economy and diplomacy, merchant and craft associations, and the ability to become King. The game says it is taking a new look at old rules and offering a minimal amount of restrictions in how you approach the world.

2024 is shaping up to be one hell of a year in MMOs and MMORPGs! This is just a sample of all the titles we're expecting to at least get our hands on in a beta fashion, if not in a full release. What game are you the most excited to see come out? Which one has you the most worried? Let us know in the comments!

Chrono Odyssey, released in 2024?!? I can't believe that, but I guess we'll see.

Path of Exile 2 has a test scheduled for mid 2024, but as far as I know, has given no indication of its launch date, so that could easily end up not happening until 2025.

Pax Dei I just can't imagine getting released in 2024.

Ashfall is a cross platform mobile game, which is why many weren't too hyped for the test a ways back.

The others I know little, to nothing of, or have a scheduled 2024 release date, that should reasonably be met.
