Things Get Silly With The Latest April Fools Day In-Game Shenanigans Across The MMO World
From sunglasses to in-game modes, things are a bit goofy.
Once again, it’s that time of year, and we find ourselves at the mercy of game developers as we try to determine if they’re being for real or engaging in a yearly troll fest. What we do know is that in some cases, it means players have a new mode or in-game event to try out. Rather than posting each one of these things individually, we’ve decided to just round them all up here in one place.
As more will likely be shared throughout the day, be sure to check in and see what hijinx other devs are getting up to.
First up, we have several offerings from Gaijin Entertainment. Today, the publisher announced April Fools’ Day events for four of its games: Active Matter, Enlisted, War Thunder, and War Thunder Mobile.
Enlisted
Between now and April 15, Enlisted players on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation can all try out the FFA Hero Deathmatch mode, featuring “an extraordinary cast of Unique Heroes”. According to the description, these heroes changed the course of history and feature “distinctive appearances, personal legendary weapons, and immersive backstories”. Supposedly, they’re related to World War II, but at least one of them is clad in a towel with a chamber pot on his head.
War Thunder
Today, War Thunder announced a “major update” for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. The update “will be available within the next 24 hours” and begin with World War I gameplay tests. That seemingly means the addition of World War I vehicles and infantry. There’s even supposed to be a closed beta test for the infantry and everything… beginning “soon”.
War Thunder Mobile
On the mobile War Thunder Front, things are apparently all about pirates now. Between today and April 8, players will be able to command sailing galleons in the Caribbean Sea and hunt for treasure.
Active Matter
While Gaijin’s latest extraction shooter hasn’t launched just yet, that hasn’t stopped them from including it in their April Fools’ shenanigans. In this case, they’re offering players a massive update featuring a 40,000 unique world multiverse – “each with its own laws, civilizations, and challenges”. Apparently, as an added bonus, players will be able to take the dog tags of those they defeat and take them prisoner. Then, these tags can be equipped in the next raid to put the original owner to work.
Warframe
Well, it seems Digital Extremes is feeling downright silly, introducing the April 2025 “Warframes” collection, which is apparently just a lot of different types of sunglasses. The website boasts four featured collections and testimonials from Warframes like Gauss and Qorvex. FYI, Qorvex has declared the sunglasses “thick enough to contain a reactor meltdown.”
PalWorld
Have you considered dating your pals? We’re guessing someone has because the April Fools’ Day event seems a bit like Pocketpair stumbled across someone’s Tumblr account Palworld school fic and decided that’s a great idea. Thus, the creation of the Palworld dating sim featuring various pals as academy students. Some of the characters are detailed on the survival game’s Steam account.
Hearthstone
The Year of the Raptor becomes the Year of the Chicken, and all classes are Leeroy Jenkins. Balance updates prevent Sylvanas from hanging out with Shaladrassil and rename Workhorse to “Horse,” and send it off to the stables. Also, “take backsies” are apparently a thing now, and players can reverse a move so long as they haven’t lifted a finger from their device. No, not really. But if you want to see what things could be, the post is available on the Hearthstone site.
