"Weapons of Victory" Update Now Live in War Thunder
Gaijin Entertainment has launched the previously showcased "Weapons of Victory" update in their free to play, tank combat simulator, War Thunder. This first part of an ongoing update schedule adds 3 new maps, a multitude of new vehicles, and updated aircraft damage model system, and a few "firsts" to the game.
On the map front, the "Normandy" map recreates the challenges faced by the Allied forces storming the beach during World War II. This map has ample ambush points as the battle is taken from the beach, to a provincial setting, to a full urban sprawl. The “Hürtgen Forest” map features the challenging terrain of Western Germany faced by the US Army in the longest battle in its history. Finally the “Reichstag” map takes armored combat to the hard fought streets of Berlin.
Weapons of Victory adds a new "fastest" tank into War Thunder while also adding a new "slowest" tank. The M18 Hellcat can zip around the battlefield at an impressive 56 MPH on roads while the heavily armored T95 crawls around the battlefield like a turtle, but is capable of piercing over 1 foot thick armor.
In the sky, aircraft damage has been reworked to not only improve the models of aircraft taking damage, but to also provide a few changes to gameplay. Bombers will have a slightly easier time belly landing aircraft that have damaged landing gear and will be able to survive a ram from lighter aircraft provided no critical system are injured in the collision.
That's just scratching the surface of the update. Check out the full patch notes for all the extra details.
