War Thunder Releases "New Power" Update, With Battleships And New Graphics Engine
Gaijin Entertainment has launched what it's calling the "biggest update ever" for War Thunder, which brings not only a bunch of new content to the game but also a new graphics engine -- especially sure to please users on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, for which War Thunder was a launch title.
The New Power update adds battle cruisers and battleships to the game for the first time, while also overhauling the game's naval progression, splitting it into two tiers, one each for smaller and larger ships. For pilots, New Power adds VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft, and tankers can enjoy a variety of new vehicles for each nation, such as the T-90A tank with its electro-optical jammer and laser/IR warning system. Lasers are always cool.
The visual enhancements to War Thunder come with the new Dagor 6.0 engine, which "has the means to draw a realistic sunset on Mars or a nuclear bomb explosion if needed." In the more-likely-to-actually-be-needed category, the new engine enhances fire and destruction physics, while also enabling "physically correct armour scars," which include the possibility for projectiles to get stuck in a tank's armor.
