Want To Be An Elected Official Or A Planetary Dictator In Stars Reach? According To A Content Creator Stream, It'll Be Possible
There's a ton of tidbits Raph and David dropped on the stream, so grab a snack and chill for 2 hours.
Alright, gang. If you've been following Stars Reach since it was announced like I have, there's quite a bit to dive into today, but you're going to have to earn it. As the MMORPG continues testing phases, we received little nuggets from Playable Worlds' Raph Koster and David Georgeson about skills, exploration, and other design philosophies.
Having the kind of "go anywhere, do anything" hype around it, it'll be extremely interesting to see exactly what Stars Reach becomes when it hits a full launch. We've seen games in the past promise a lot, then fall flat on really meeting any particular group's needs. Fingers crossed.
If you're looking for more news, there is a ton in a recent content creator stream that Raph Koster and David Georgeson attended, but you're going to have to earn every detail. Clocking in at about 2 hours, you'll want to grab a snack (maybe even a meal) and sit back to take everything in. I've included MMOBomber RedBeardFlynn's full video below, so hit play and enjoy.
However, I do have a few personal favorites on the detail front that I'll point out.
When terraforming a planet, you're obviously going to have some waste. The team of players in the stream learned this the hard way with a bunch of gravel. Obviously, you probably don't want piles of gravel surrounding your masterpiece creation. Where's it all go, then? Well, it has to go somewhere, but a discussion on this topic led to PLayable Worlds disclosing that Stars Reach does have plans for a future "politician" role. You can be elected into office by those on the planet, and then you can help with zoning of waste, roads, and everything else.
Flip side: if the planet's settings allow it, you could also just opt to become a tyrannical dictator over the planet. Both seem fun, with players determining how a world will be governed since Playable Worlds can add new worlds on the fly. They can also collapse wormholes to planets that have been obliterated and see no visitors. Flip side again: that planet could also be brought back to life by players that want to play "Johnny Appleseed."
Another fun bit is the discussion about "item flow." As anyone that's played in a sandbox for longer than 5 minutes knows, when you dump sand on the same pile over and over again, the new sand doesn't just sit on the top of the pile. It all flows down the pile as the pile gets both wider and taller. Now, we've known that materials in Stars Reach would behave in the same way for a while. However, in a new bit of information on the stream we find out that yes, this flow will eventually be able to kill you if you get caught underneath a collapse, or happen to be standing next to a tree when it is forced to fall down due to digging under it.
I'll give you one more: in true "Star Wars Galaxies" fashion, yes, you will eventually be able to be an "entertainer" if you so desire. Right now, dances are in the game and they only work in certain places (like a home), but eventually you'll be able to find your entertainer calling.
There's tons of small things like this revealed in the stream, so check it out in full below.
