Last week we let you know that Gaijin Entertainment was brining on the drones in War Thunder and now that wait is officially over as the update is live right now.

The "Drone Age" update lets combatants feel a bit more "modern" on the battlefield with the addition of Chinese, American, and Russian reconnaissance and combat drones, while at the same time introducing a slew of new combat vehicles and tech trees from other countries.

Take command of the Chinese helicopter tech tree, Israeli versions of the M48 and M60 tanks, the Turkish T129 ATAK helicopter and the South African Rooivalk Mk1F CSH helicopter, the Italian Andrea Doria dreadnought, and duke it out on two new maps ("Golden Bay" and "Pradesh") complete with new environmental destruction effects.

Another quality of life addition to War Thunder is the inclusion of procedurally generated shell-to-armor contact effects. These effects take into account multiple variables such as the caliber of ammo used, smoke pours from wounds, and an upgrade to the quality of models used in the "kill cam" allows players to get a much clearer notion of what went right (or horribly wrong) on the battlefield.
