Take A Trip Down Memory Lane With Terran Gregory And See How The Original World Of Warcraft Black Temple Trailer Was Created
Creating WoW’s first real cinematic was a bit trickier then.
Note: Activision Blizzard is still under investigation by the state of California for serious harassment charges. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about such actions within his company – and performed some himself – and shielded the perpetrators from consequences.
The Black Temple is coming to World of Warcraft Classic, which means players can expect to revisit the game’s first true cinematic as well. With that in mind, Lead Cinematic Narrative Designer, Terran Gregory took a look back at what was involved in creating the Black Temple trailer and how he even got there in the first place.
If in-game art and cinematics are your thing, you’re going to want to watch this. The video demonstrates what the team had to do in order to work with the materials they had to create the trailer. Some of it involved having individuals effectively act out their parts in-game in order to create the scene. Other workarounds involved literally tracing where characters were on the monitor to ensure they were in the right spot when things were layered. It’s all very practical and incredibly neat.
