SWTOR Exec. Producer Looks At The MMORPG's Year And Teases What's Coming To The Galaxy In 2025
Maybe the switch to Broadsword will be ok after all.
When it was announced last year that Star Wars: The Old Republic would be changing hands from BioWare to Broadsword, obviously fans of the MMORPG were a bit on edge. The future of SWTOR was going to be decided by a company that really didn't have a huge history of developing MMOs. They were really mostly known for just maintaining Dark Age of Camelot and Ultima Online...although they have done new things with the latter.
Since then, SWTOR has seen the addition of Date Night Companions and Game Updates 7.5 and 7.6. That most recent update just released this month and added a new Operation Boss and "Dynamic Encounters" out in the MMO's world. As the year closes, Executive Producer Keith Kanneg takes some time to pen his quarterly letter to fans and looks back at all of those additions.
There's still more to come as the current update's story content was delayed until early next year and SWTOR is really just getting started with their modernization of zones and characters. Another big 2024 addition was a Mac launcher which just opened a few days ago for open beta testing.
While story has been a bit lacking in more recent patches in players' opinions, hopefully that's something the team improves next year. However, speaking of next year, Kanneg does look forward a bit, but it's "redacted," of course.
"Really looking forward to talking about our plans here as we have a new [redacted] coming with some new [redacted], the continuation of our story, along with a host of other things to tell you about! Last but not least, we can't forget that 2025 is the next Star Wars Celebration 2025 is just around the corner and so I'm just excited as a Star Wars fan to see what next year holds for all of us.," reads the post.
Hopefully that means good things for players still nervous about the MMORPG's potential future.
