Stars Reach Shows Off Its First Of Many Graphics Updates If You Didn't Like The Initial Pre-Alpha Footage
This is just the first of many passes the team will do to improve visuals before any beta takes place.
More news from the Stars Reach team today and this news might be especially welcome for those of you that saw the very first pre-alpha footage released and said, "nope, those graphics aren't for me." To be clear, Stars Reach is still in early development from a consumer perspective and it still looks it. The art style continues to be what we've previously seen too, so if you hated the art style itself (and not just the graphical quality of said art style), then today's video from the MMO's team probably isn't swaying you much.
If, however, you were ok with the style but just wanted to see it flushed out a bit more, then today's video does that on a few fronts. The environments have received the most love in this graphics pass, but lighting and character avatars are seeing some bumps up the graphical ladder, too.
This still isn't the "final product," obviously, as the team will perform multiple passes as Stars Reach continues the march towards beta testing.
I like some of the environmental details and how they interact to almost "hide" the procedural generation of the worlds. It's nice to see how materials react to shape surfaces, too. That said, I would really have liked to have seen some side-by-side comparisons in the video. Looking at pre-alpha footage, it's always hard to see improvements that are somewhat incremental. If you'd like to compare, I've put both the video they initially released and the video posted today below so you can do your own comparisons.
