SOE Shows How It Squashes PlanetSide 2 Bugs
We all hate bugs. They ruin our games and make lives miserable for the devs who are tasked with finding and fixing them.
Or maybe not. Maybe it's happy-shiny time in the devs' office, delighted as they are to have a chance to show off their awesome bug-crushing skills!
That's probably not quite accurate, but the above video from SOE shows a bunch of semi-happy workers laying out all the steps required to take down a simple bug in PlanetSide 2. The process requires people from a wide variety of disciplines, including a QA tester, tools and graphics programmer, and build manager.
In the end, the nasty bug is evicted -- despite Matt Higby's protestations that "We don't have any bugs in this game!" -- and everyone lives happily ever after. Except the bug.
It's an interesting look at an oft-neglected aspect of game design and development. Is this the sort of thing you'd like to see more of?
