PlanetSide 2 Implant Drop Rate "Adjusted," Players Not Happy
It's been a fun weekend to kickoff the new year for Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). By "fun" of course I mean it's been time for damage control and calm heads on social media platforms, and (predictably) SOE and SOE President John Smedley, fell a bit short.
First, the change. Implants in PlanetSide 2 are soldier add-ons that modify a number of game features, stats, and abilities such as reducing camera shake from explosions and auto spotting enemies that have damaged you. The 4 tiers of implants offer a wide variety of combat options.
In the latest game update, a patch note calls out that "overall Implant rates have been adjusted to accommodate the inclusion of new Tier 4 implants."
Basically, implant drop rates in game were reduced leaving many players feeling like SOE was pushing then into the Cash Shop.
How did SOE respond to player concerns? In a way that is sure to anger many PlanetSide 2 players, of course!
Among the cries of "P2W," John Smedley took to his own Twitter to announce that:
He followed up later by saying that the original implant drop rate was higher than intended and this change was technically a "fix" to that error.
The SOE response got even better when Community Manager, Tony Jones, took to Reddit with the totally non-combative reply (sarcasm) of, "Depends on how you define P2W. If implants are P2W, then yes you may not like everything in the future."
Is this a P2W move? PlanetSide 2 players chime in below!

I constantly forget to recharge my implants yet i seem to do just fine. PS2 isn't really a win or lose type game it's merely an extremely large game of unending tug of war. Realisticly there is no win or lose. Sure you take the "win" in some small skirmishes, but in reality you can never really win or lose. Honestly it's not as if you need implants to do well. It's not as if they are forcing anyone into the cash shop. It is still can be earned by playing the game. In my opinion people are spending far to much time searching for things to be angry about rather than just enjoying the games. I understand you would like to "win" but if that's the case maybe PS2 was never really the game for you..........just sayin......
