Once Human Will Make Cosmetics Account Wide After Feedback From Metas Not Wanting To Buy Many Hats
It should have been this way from the start, but the original 1 character limitation may have played a part.
Another day, another substantial change announced by the Once Human team and this time, it's about the way the survival game monetizes some things. Pirate Software got to chat with the team about their issues with the game. Issues many players have also brought up. Issues included the forced seasonal resets, drops feeling less valuable since they can't be repaired, and one near and dear to my heart, the locking of cosmetics to a single character and not to an account.
While the Once Human team seemed receptive to the critique in their reply on X, they did specifically call out the sale of cosmetics. In August, the team will transition purchased cosmetics to an account bound status. Buy it once and the item will be available on all characters on that account...which is honestly the way this should have been from the beginning. It wasn't though, so I'll take solace in the devs hearing player feedback and actioning it right away. Refunds will be given at that time if you purchased something already.
Thank you so much for taking the time to discuss with us and provide such detailed feedback about Once Human's gameplay. We understand Metas' concerns about the mandatory seasonal resets and how they can affect your sense of progression and attachment to your character.

There's a part of me that thinks the "locked to a character" status may not have been a greed thing, at least initially. Once Human launched with the ability to only create one single character. A cosmetic bound to that character would effectively make it account bound. If the team never intended to allow more than one character, then buying a cosmetic for that character wouldn't have been an issue.
When the team decided to unlock the ability to create multiple characters hours after launch due to player uproar, then we get the cosmetics problem.
Maybe I'm giving them too much credit and they fully intended to allow multiple characters at some point and were trying to milk the cosmetics cow. Who knows.
Either way, they seem to be making the right decision on this front and it's good to see.
On the update front, Once Human also dropped a small update that fixed a few issues...like that annoying camera issue when walking up steps.
