NCSoft Sues Kakao Games And XL Games Saying ArcheAge War "Plagiarized" Lineage 2M
Let the lawsuits begin!
NCSoft is going after Kakao Games and XL Games in court, alleging that the two "unlawfully copied and plagiarized NCsoft’s intellectual property beyond the similarity of the genre".
The game in question is Kakao's ArcheAge War, which NCSoft claims contains "numerous features and systems from NCsoft’s flagship game Lineage 2M".
Lineage 2M is NCSoft's mobile version of Lineage 2. ArcheAge War is developed by XL Games and published by Kakao Games, and can be played on mobile and PC.
All of this is according to a report in the Korean Times, which reports that NCSoft has filed a lawsuit against Kakao and XL within the Seoul Central District Court for copyright infringement and unfair competition.
As the Times points out, XL Games CEO Jake Song served a major role in the creation of Lineage in the late 1990s.
Kakao has yet to release a statement on the matter, but you can probably imagine what it will sound like.
