NC America CEO Calls Continuing DDoS Attacks in Blade & Soul NEO "Individual/Corporate Espionage"
Jin calls the attack a "crime" they're taking "very seriously."
We're now going on over 3 weeks of DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks on NCSoft's MMORPGs Lineage II and Blade & Soul NEO. The issues have been so constant and so continuous, I reported on "preliminary compensation" that the company was extending to NEO's EU players. They promised more compensation after the issues were full addressed. Not only have the attacks resulted in access issues, but sometimes even entire Lineage II servers are down.
Things don't seem to be getting better and it's now been enough of a big deal that NC America's CEO Jeonghee "JJ" Jin has issued a statement to players regarding the situation. The statement appears on both the Blade & Soul NEO site and the Lineage II site.
Jin calls the ongoing attacks "individual/corporate espionage" in nature, which is a rather bold statement, particularly including the word "corporate" in there implying a company being behind the attacks, possibly a competitor. They do not flat out make an accusation, it's just an interesting word inclusion, in my opinion.
Jin says the attacks have "been relentless and destructive. Each time we identify and squash an attack, the anonymous party changes its attack patterns, and we start over again. They’re damaging not only to you, but to us. We’re not the only ones either. Several of our industry colleagues have experienced similar DDoS attacks as well."
The team continues to work "around the clock with our cloud providers to mitigate the attacks. With our teams’ combined efforts across the board, the situation has been improving steadily but the attackers haven’t stopped yet and some of our servers are still being affected. This is a crime and we’re taking the situation very seriously."

Honestly, I didn't cover it yesterday because I thought it was a joke.

Expansions will still focus mainly on factions, but the definition of factions is also changing.

It only took eight years.

There will be additional compensation coming later whenever the issues are actually resolved.
