Nightingale State Of Game

Nightingale entered early access about six months ago, and things didn’t go quite as well as Inflexion Games hoped. Today, the developer shared a video of Inflexion’s CEO Aaryn Flynn, and Art and Audio Director Neil Thomson discussing the game’s launch and future. No. This isn’t one of those, “we didn’t make enough money off of early access so we’re shutting it all down” things. Instead, they discuss the areas where the game didn’t succeed, what changes they’ve made to address that so far, like offline mode, and what they’ll be doing going forward.

Over the last six months, the team has addressed various issues with the survival game. As pointed out in the video, most of these have been quality-of-life improvements, things like adding the offline mode. Now, they’ve arrived at a point where they’re focusing more on the future of the game. Community feedback will play a lot into this as it has since launch. They do note that currently there are several things they’re not satisfied with regarding the game, including – of course – the number of people playing the game.

There are things that won’t be changed too much, such as the procedural generation system and the tools built around it. However, there is always room for improvement.

A big thing they’re working toward is making the game truly feel like an adventure and making it more engaging. Part of this will include bringing more structure to the game and making progression clearer. This way, players will be able to understand what they can do. They’re also looking to add more variation to the realms to make them less repetitive.

Another area the devs are working on is improving the game’s build limits so that players can build more elaborate estates.

A lot of this stuff will be available later this summer when Inflexion drops a big update. As the update draws closer, the devs will begin sharing previews of what players can expect from it.
