GW2 To Reveal Expansion Launch Date February 1, Kicks Off Lunar New Year Festival
End of Dragons reveal streams scheduled for next month.
Guild Wars 2's next expansion, End of Dragons, is launching in February, but the question many players have is "When?" ArenaNet's holding that detail close to its vest for now, but plans to reveal it on February 1, as was detailed in a post on the GW2 site yesterday, along with details regarding other expansion-related reveals that would be made throughout the month on the GW2 live streams.
We love to make fun of an "announcement of an announcement" at MMOBomb, but this one deserves a little extra eyerolling. We've known about the "February" window for EoD for nearly six months now, and the fact that it's going to take until the first day of the month itself for ArenaNet to reveal the exact date isn't going over great with all parts of the community. At this late date, why not simply reveal it now, if it's known? If marketing thinks this is a way to generate "hype," it's wrong; it's just a way to annoy players, who have been waiting long enough for some very basic info.
In other news, Guild Wars 2's Lunar New Year festival is upon us, giving Tyrians another opportunity to gamble, I mean, purchase Lucky Envelopes and hope for a big prize. This year is the Year of the Tiger, and the meta-achievement has been updated with a Primal Tiger Hood reward. You can purchase last year's reward, Lunar-Enchanted Gloves, from vendors, and there are also the Crescent Steel Sword and Mini Lunar Tiger to earn.
There's also a new weekly achievement, new items, and new guild decorations to earn. Learn more about the Lunar New Year festival via the announcement on the GW2 site or the minimal patch notes on the forums.
