Guild Wars 2 Reveals "Janthir Wilds", The MMORPG's Next Expansion Slated For August 20th, Complete With Housing
Yes, actual housing is coming in the form of "Homesteads."
While we still sit around and wait for any news on the rumored Guild Wars 3 project, Guild Wars 2 fans are getting some great news today as the MMORPG revealed the adventures that await players in the next expansion.
Releasing on August 20th, Janthir Wilds adds quite a few things that players have been asking to have added.
Taking lessons learned from previous expansions, ArenaNet is moving away from the whole "Living World" type of story content and instead focusing on faster delivery of expansions and updates. Janthir Wilds, just like Secrets of the Obscure before it, will have 3 major updates between launch and Summer 2025.
What's the expansion adding? Glad you asked.
First up, TWO new zones, not just one, will be available at launch. Players can immediately explore Lowland Shore and Janthir Syntri, and a 3rd map will be added in a future update. Spears aren't just for underwater combat anymore, either. Each of the MMO's 9 classes will use the spear in different ways when fighting on land. The Warclaw mount with all of its double-jumping power will be freed from the shackles of PvP, too.
Of course, any Guild Wars 2 expansion comes with a new raid, new story (this time involving Titans), and new rewards, so expect all of that to be there.
However, the biggest new addition may be "Homesteads." Finally, Guild Wars 2 will get actual player housing. The team is calling the system "the most player-friendly housing system in an MMORPG. With a brand new customization and decorating interface, heroes can create and adorn their very own housing space for their friends and guild mates."
Check out the new trailer below and if you want to pre-order the expansion now, you can do so starting at $24.99. Higher costed bundles with additional bonuses and cash shop gems are also available.
