Guild Wars 2 Is Adding A New Raid After 5 Years...But If You Want More, You Better Actually Do This One!
This raid is a test, I repeat, this raid is a test.
Have you missed the 10-player raids in Guild Wars 2? It's been quite some time since the team at ArenaNet added one to the MMORPG. The last one was the Key of Ahdashim raid added back in 2019. Yeah, five years ago.
Sure, raids are expensive and time-consuming to make. If players aren't even doing them, then there's little reason for a video game developer to sink those resources into them rather than something more players will experience. That doesn't mean that the team isn't WILLING to do them, though. In the upcoming Janthir Wilds expansion, ArenaNet will try raids one more time.
This time around, the 10-player raid will be integrated as part of the expansion's main story, allowing it to be developed within other content, rather than alongside the main content. If you aren't into raiding, no worries. You'll still be able to experience the story beats via your own personal narrative. Because of the ties the raid will have to the main story, there won't be any "Strike Mission" content to lead to the raid this time around. Of course, Challenge and Legendary Modes will come after the initial raid launch.
Here's the thing: this is a test. If you enjoy this type of content in Guild Wars 2, then you really need to go do this raid when it releases. The dev team is treating this as a test to see if there's enough of an audience for raid content going forward. If you don't do it and raids never appear again, you have no one to blame besides yourself. You've been warned.
On the Convergence front, there is a new 50-player Convergence planned, too. If you've done any of the past Convergences, expect the one added in Janthir Wilds to be more difficult. The post calls this out saying, "We’ve fine-tuned these bosses to present a more advanced challenge than in previous Convergences, necessitating coordinated efforts from all party members to secure victory."
P.S. Be on the lookout for mail in game. The annual Festival of the Four Winds starts on the 30th.
