Grab Your Spear And Head Into The Janthir Wilds, It's Launch Day For The New Guild Wars 2 Expansion
Instead of 3 new maps coming throughout the expansion, we're actually getting 4 new ones.
The next week is very busy for expansion and update launches in MMORPGs and today kind of "kicks things off" as it's time for Guild Wars 2 to lead the way with today's launch of Janthir Wilds. In addition to spear combat on land, which received numerous improvements since being beta tested, Janthir Wilds kicks off a whole new story arc that will roll through the next 3 updates planned to be released each quarter.
Homesteads, Guild Wars 2's housing feature, finally makes it to the game and is sure to be one of the most welcome features of Janthir Wilds. If you want to unlock your new home and get to decorating using the new tools, simply work your way through the main story.
As for post-launch expansion updates, we have the current plan, shown below, and there's actually one substantive change already. Originally the plan was to launch 3 new maps in the the expansion's lifecycle. That's now up to 4 maps as the team decided to forego the original plan to drop the 3rd map in two parts, and just drop two new maps instead. Both maps will be similar in size to Lake Doric.
Keep in mind, roadmap are always subject to change, of course.
As for launch events, Twitch Drops are happening today through next week, then it's off to the MMO's Anniversary Week, then multiple in game events rotate through November...including my personal favorite, the Mad King celebration.

Launch is expected to be at about 9AM PDT barring delays.
