Don't Expect The Next Guild Wars 2 Expansion In August Like Previous Years, It's Not Coming Until October
It's kind of a delay if you look at previous years, but we didn't technically have a release date yet anyway.
The last two Guild Wars 2 expansions, Secrets of the Obscure and Janthir Wilds, saw the MMORPG establish an annual cadence that saw expansions every August. If you expected the next Guild Wars 2 expansion to come this August, then we've kind of got "delayed" news for you. According to a post from Game Director Josh Davis, the next expansion won't be coming until October. I guess you can call it a "delay," but since we didn't technically have a release date yet, is it really a delay? Maybe that's a philosophical debate for another time.
Davis says that the October release will "allow us to ensure the expansion meets our quality standards without crunching." Certainly a goal we're in favor of here on MMOBomb.
The new release window will not impact the last quarterly update to the current Janthir Wilds update, currently penciled in to release in June. It does, however, mean that the content from the last Janthir Wilds update will have to carry you about 4 months instead of 2 to 3 months.
Expect to start seeing information and details about the expansion this summer.
