Darkpaw Games Announces 64-bit Servers Coming To EverQuest
Extra Life fundraiser stream kicks off this weekend, server merges coming next year.
It's been a while since we've seen a Producer's Letter for EverQuest -- eight months, as a matter of fact -- so today's letter from Darkpaw Games Head of Studio Jenn Chan has a lot of ground to cover. After talking briefly about the successes of EverQuest's randomized loot servers, she made the big announcement that 64-bit clients and servers would be coming to the game in the near future.
Those will come in early 2022 after the Terror of Luclin expansion, the game's 28th expansion, which is currently up for pre-order sales. Chan said that the response to the expansion reveal has been "nothing short of spectacular" and she and the rest of the team "sincerely appreciate all of the positive comments and feedback we've received."
On tap for the end of 2021 is another round of fundraising with Extra Life to support the Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego. November 6 is the date that EverQuest and EverQuest II will be streamed to support the cause, and you can donate on the Extra Life site here. And, as expected, players can look forward to the usual events and sales over the upcoming holiday season.
Finally, Chan closes out the letter with a bit of sad news: Server merges are coming, and they're expected to go into effect sometime in 2022. She'll have more information on exactly what form they'll take in the first half of next year.
