5 Stories of Players Who Rose to Fame in MMORPGs
From Zero to Hero! These players became famous (or infamous) in their MMORPG of choice.
Some players have transcended the game they play, becoming famous simply by being a player of the game. Whether it be a one-time incredible feat, or by being a mainstay in their game of choice, these players have become famous within their MMORPG's communities.
Leeroy Jenkins - World of Warcraft
Yes, it was staged, but World of Warcraft's Leeroy Jenkins became so popular that the incident and screaming "LEEEEROOOY JENKIIIINSSS" infiltrated pop culture. The incident has garnered a lot of views online and was even featured on the Family Guy TV show.
Here's that Family Guy episode for those who have not seen it.
Zezima - Runescape
Zezima was the highest-ranked player in Runescape for large portions of 2004-2007. He was the first player to achieve level 99 in Slayer, and is arguably the most famous player in the game's history. In 2007 Zezima became the first player to hit one billion experience, quite the accomplishment at the time.
Sleeps-on-Bridges - Elder Scrolls Online
Sleeps-on-Bridges became famous in The Elder Scrolls Online for doing just what their name says; sleeping on bridges. Players who found Sleep-on-Bridges sleeping on a bridge would report the find, then parties would ensue around the sleeping Argonian.
Tiger - Maplestory
Whether Tiger was just one person or not seems up for debate, but the character became infamous for always being the first to reach certain milestones in the game. There are stories all over the internet from those who remember Tiger's time in Maplestory, and all of the accomplishments that were achieved. It's a deep dive into infamy if you go looking for Tiger stories.
Fansy the Bard - Everquest
Fansy was a Bard in Everquest who took advantage of a little loophole in the PvP server Sullon Zek. You see, characters under level 6 couldn't be flagged for PvP, but a level 5 Bard could charm a high-level Sand Giant. What ensued was utter domination as Fansy used an army of Sand Giants to wreak havoc on others. Fansy's fame has a myriad of stories that are still quite a blast to read.
