Yoshi-P: If Investigations Show Mods Used In FFXIV Ultimate Clear, "I Will Not Recognize That Team As True World First"
From mods in Ultimate, to leaked footage, to punishments, Yoshi-P isn't happy.
Well that was fast. When we posted last night about the "clearing" of FFXIV's latest Ultimate raid and the subsequent video released showing the group in question using a zooming camera mod, we speculated that we would be getting a "disappointed dad" post from Yoshi-P pretty quickly.
Here we are the very next morning and we already have that letter in hand.
Obviously, Yoshi-P isn't exactly thrilled by recent happenings. The aforementioned Ultimate mod debacle, the leaked cutscene footage obtained prior to a clear (apparently by some manipulation that was able to happen in the live client, something Yoshi-P says is being rectified), and the use of third-party mods in general are all discussed in the latest post on the Lodestone.
"It is extremely disappointing for me personally to see this commotion surrounding third-party tools once again in the wake of what happened with Dragonsong’s Reprise (Ultimate). As the individual who is entrusted with full supervision over FFXIV, it is my responsibility to enact countermeasures and police the use of these tools, as well as educate people to not use these types of third-party tools—this is especially unfortunate when I, as a gamer, am cheering on everyone who is learning this content by trial and error and putting in the effort to clear," says Yoshi-P.
There really shouldn't be any surprises in the post for you long time FFXIV followers, though. Yoshi-P reiterates the fact that third-party mods are banned, states that this is his stance regardless of what you may have heard, and says the Ultimate cheaters and the footage leakers (internal or external) will be investigated and suspensions or bans will be given. Don't expect a public update on that though as the Square Enix team feels that is between the player and the company.
All-in-all, it's exactly what you'd expect to read after what has happened.
Of interesting note though is the discussion of an "official" World First Race. This topic comes up every time we go around this circle and to date Yoshi-P has kept things unofficial. On this topic though, he says, "We hear the community voice that an official raid race should be supported, and regulations should be decided upon—this is a topic which needs to be discussed internally, so please allow me to keep this as an item for future consideration." Maybe it will be on the table soon.
Here's where we finally get to the disappointment as Yoshi-P concludes, "However, if the presumption is that this content will be tackled and cleared with the use of third-party tools, then any reason to develop high-difficulty battle content seems to be lost. It’s very difficult for me to understand as a gamer what the meaning behind using numerous third-party tools to compete to clear first would be"..."If the illicit use of third-party tools is made clear through our investigations, I, at the very least, will not recognize that team as the true World First."
