Endwalker Login Compensation

If you're one of those Final Fantasy XIV players who's been suffering Endwalker login woes, at the mercy of long queues and the dreaded Error 2002, we can’t exactly tell you it’s going to get better soon. But thanks to a note from Yoshi-P, we can tell you exactly what that 2002 error means, what you can possibly do to stop it from happening – “possibly” because it’s not guaranteed – and what the dev team intends to do to make up for it.

So, let’s go with good news first. Because this is such a problem, the FFXIV team will be granting 7 days of free game time to everyone who owns the full version of the game and has an active sub – including players still on the 30-day free period that comes with registering the game. If things continue as they have, they may add more game time in the future. We’ll just have to wait to hear about that.

On the actual issue side of things, obviously, the big problem is that there are just too many people trying to get in at once. We all know that. If you didn’t know already (I know some did.), more than 17,000 people trying to log into a data center at once is a problem. In fact, it’s one of the Error 2002 problems. The other cause is one you may be able to do something about on your end.

Error 2002 problem number two is packet loss or network instability on the player’s end. This causes a momentary disconnect. According to the post, this is the more common issue and a possible way to fix it is to break out those ethernet cables and plug yourself into the router, rather than relying on Wi-Fi. Players on the PlayStation systems are also encouraged to check their power-saving settings and make sure that’s not disconnecting your system from the net.

The post goes on to address other errors and things like peak hours of congestion, what happens when you try to bypass the auto-logout with dancing and the like. Those interested can read it in full on the Final Fantasy XIV site.
