"Yesterday Sucked": Wayfinder Addresses Bad Launch, Compensation, And Cash Shop Price Changes In Apology Post
Odd costed cash shop items will be price changed to match the amount of cash shop currency purchased.
Look, as we talked about on our podcast today, the Wayfinder early access has been a downright mess and having cash shop items priced just slightly above what a cash shop currency bundle bought you just felt even more egregious.
The Wayfinder teams from Digital Extremes and Airship Syndicate just addressed these concerns and more in an apology post put up on the action-RPG's site.
First, the usual apologies for server stability and the lack of being able to pre-purchase a Founder's Pack are given. "Early Access isn’t a crutch. It’s a conversation between a studio and the community that’s helping build the game alongside the studio. We said from the start that we’d be transparent and open with the community and that continues now that we have players entrusting us with their money, and us failing to deliver," the post reads.
The team then details why their queue system broke, what they are doing to fix things, and how they intend to keep increasing server stability over the next few days.
On the subject of compensation, Wayfinder players will be receiving some type of compensation for the launch woes. This will be detailed in a later post after issues with logging in and the issues some have with missing Founder's Pack items are addressed.
On the subject of giving a company your money, Wayfinder addressed something players took issue with once they were actually able to get in game...the cash shop.
Having cash shop currencies in bundles of 1100 or 2000 but having single items priced at 1150 felt predatory. To be clear, a LOT of game cash shops engage in this predatory behavior, so this isn't unique to Wayfinder, but when it rains issues, it'll pour grievances. This struck players as infuriating...particularly when a company like Digital Extremes is the publisher and their game Warframe is often touted as one of the better F2P cash shops out there.
"We also saw conversation around some of our bundle prices being just shy of items in our store. We agree that it’s not player friendly. We’re revisiting this pricing so that they are 1,000 Runesilver, and will retroactively grant the difference for anyone that has paid for any of these weapons."
As the post points out, the game clearly has an audience, how much of that audience has been burnt to the point of walking away remains to be seen, but an apology post like this is certainly a good start.
