XDefiant will launch with crossplay and non-pay-to-win microtransactions.

That’s what Ubisoft is saying, at least. Executive Producer Mark Rubin clarified that a console-only crossplay option for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will be introduced post-launch, too. Apparently the ability to disable crossplay in-game is not available due to Microsoft's policies. Instead, players must use the crossplay settings within the Xbox system itself to manage their preferences.

Also, the developers have assured that there will be no pay-to-win mechanics added to the shooter. All purchasable gameplay content can also be unlocked through in-game challenges. For example, the DedSec faction available in Preseason can be unlocked by acquiring 700,000 XP or by purchase.

The game will offer various customization options that reward players for participating in matches, regardless of their outcomes as well. These rewards include free battle pass items, daily and weekly in-game challenges, Ubisoft Connect challenges, weapon mastery updates, and community participation rewards like Twitch Drops and giveaways.

Additionally, customization in XDefiant will come in the form of character skins, weapon skins, MVP player animations, player cards, and emoji packs. At launch, players can expect a premium battle pass, character and weapon cosmetics, faction unlocks, player card backgrounds, player animations, and emoji packs. And there’s a Founder's Pack, featuring exclusive cosmetics for early adopters.
