Xbox Showcase: Diablo IV Is Coming In 2023, Complete With Necromancer
It will host cross-play and cross-progression on all platfoms.
During yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase event, Blizzard Entertainment announced the long-awaited Diablo IV will be making its way to players sometime next year. Unfortunately, they didn’t specify when in 2023 the game will be released, so there’s still a pretty big window and fans could have as much as an 18-month wait for it. We’d guess they don’t intend for it to be quite that long. Otherwise, they could have waited a bit longer to make any announcements. That said, leaving it wide open like that does leave room for errors. It also leaves plenty of room for beta testing, so we’ll want to keep an eye out for that.
When the game launches, it will be available on Windows PC, Xbox One X|S, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStations 4 and 5. As of now, the developer is promising cross-play and cross-progression for all available platforms. For those on consoles, couch co-op will also be a thing.
As part of the showcase announcement, Blizzard also revealed the game’s fifth and final class, the Necromancer. As we’d expect from a class that dabbles in death magic, the scythe is its weapon of choice. The new class’s trailer as well as some gameplay can be seen below.
Note: Activision Blizzard is still under investigation by the state of California for serious harassment charges. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about such actions within his company – and performed some himself – and shielded the perpetrators from consequences.
