World Of Warcraft Details Mythic+ Changes Coming To PTR Because Apparently Delves Made You Play Them Wrong

Lunar New Year is up, too.

Ok, pithy headline aside, World of Warcraft is starting to make changes to the MMORPG's Mythic+ dungeon system. Some of the core ideas behind the changes have already been implemented in the Season 2 dungeons already on the PTR, and in the way rewards are doled in the Siren Isle content update.

From Blizzard's perspective, there's two key problems with Mythic+. First, with the onslaught of mechanics and the timer, they were too difficult. Second, the rewards earned through them weren't worth the difficulty. This made it particularly hard for players who weren't in highly "meta" static groups to find players to group up with to start their Mythic+ journey.

Turns out, Blizzard blames Delves for this. They kind of also blame us, the players.

See, according to the new blog posted by the team, because Delves offered higher level rewards, Blizzard claims that players were trying to automatically jump straight to Mythic Level 7 since rewards below that were Champion Level gear and players no longer needed that gear. They got it from Delves. However, Blizzard says that just because you had the Champion gear didn't mean you were ready for the difficulty of Mythic 7 and the increased heath and affixes that come with it.

This gets compounded when these groups start to wipe and then players leave. It also meant that players trying to take it slow and do 2-6 keys had a much more shallow pool of players interested in running those tiers.

See, it's your fault. Stop trying to do content that has the rewards you need to progress your character's gear. Go do that content that doesn't offer what you need and learn, sucka...sigh.

Anyway, the team will be testing a few more changes when The War Within Season 2 mythic dungeons hit the PTR over the next few weeks.

First, Mythic 0 will offer Champion gear from each boss on a weekly lockout. Mythic 2-10 will see enemy health increased by 7% per level instead of 10%. Level 11 and beyond will retain the 10% per level scaling. The Xal’atath’s Bargain rotating affixes will move up from Mythic 2 to Mythic 4. Mythic 12 and up players get a bit of help since instead of an additional 10% increase to enemy health, Xal'atath's Guile will now include the increased timer penalty for deaths that was formerly part of Challenger's Peril, as a replacement for the rotating Bargain affixes.

Hero gear will also drop from the final chest in Mythic 6 and Gilded Crests will drop in 7 and up.

We'll have to see how it goes. I actually really enjoyed The War Within but stopped playing totally simply because you couldn't find Mythic groups that wanted to learn. I don't personally think this addresses some of the core issue with the Mythic+ system, but we'll see if it helps push things in the right direction.

The full post includes a breakdown of the new rewards and affixes per level if you're curious. There's also new details on the raising of the Keystone Legend achievement requirements to go along with the above changes. WoW's Lunar New Year event is also live.
