WoW cross-faction guilds

It's hard to say that World of Warcraft's two-faction system has been relevant for a while in the MMORPG. Other than in PvP, there are fewer and fewer who care as much about Horde vs. Alliance. Blizzard seems to agree, as the faction lines are blurring a little more next month with the release of the Embers of Neltharion update. In this WoW update, cross-faction guilds will finally become a reality.

There are a few limitations, however. Here's a rundown of how the cross-faction guild system in World of Warcraft will work:

Guild affiliation with the Alliance or Horde will depend on the guild leader's faction. Guild Achievements and vendors will still reflect the guild's primary faction (that of the Guild Leader).

Guild members of the opposite faction will benefit from unlocked shared perks but cannot contribute to specific achievements. As an example, Alliance members of a Horde guild could not contribute progress towards the "Alliance Slayer" guild achievement.

Guild repairs and social conveniences, like shared chat, will be available to opposite-faction guild members.

Players must be Battle.net friends or part of the same Battle.net community to invite or receive an invitation to an opposite-faction guild on the same realm.

Opposite-faction guildmates can only play communally inside instances; they'll still be considered "Unfriendly" to each other (or Hostile in War Mode) in the outdoor world.

Cross-faction guilds arrive in World of Warcraft on May 2nd with the Embers of Neltharion update.

Note: Activision Blizzard has had charges filed against them by the state of California for serious harassment allegations. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about such actions within his company and in many employees' eyes failed to take adequate action. These allegations have all been denied by Activision Blizzard and the company points to additional diversity and inclusion training as past examples of taking the accusations seriously at the time they were made.
