Wizard101 Is Bringing The Spell-Slinging MMORPG To Consoles, Including The Switch
This was certainly a surprise announcement to see in my inbox this morning!
Let's mark the "didn't see this console release coming" spot on my MMORPG bingo card this morning. Today, KingsIsle Entertainment announced that their robe-wearing, spell-slinging, long-running MMORPG Wizard101 will be making a console debut. While we don't have the release date yet, that's coming later, we do have quite a bit of other information about the platform jump.
Wizard101 will have a native release on PS4 and Xbox One consoles and be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the consoles through compatibility modes. The MMO will also drop onto Nintendo's Switch console if you would like to take the magic on the go. While the console version will not allow cross play with PC players, all of the consoles will share one new Wizard101 server, so cross play between consoles will be an option.
Players have been asking for this one for quite some time so it's nice to see an older MMO getting the console treatment, even if it doesn't seem like it will support cross progression between PC and consoles.
I'm pretty sure my kids, who are adults now, are going to hop right on this for some quick nostalgia if nothing else and I would bet they won't be alone in that.
Stay tuned for more information and release dates!
