WildStar's Crafting Up Next for Free to Play Renovations
Carbine Studios continues to release the changes planned for WildStar when the MMORPG makes its free to play conversion later this month and today crafting gets its reveal. For the uninitiated, Weaponsmith, Armorer, Outfitter, and Tailor are the four tradeskills that use CBC (Circuit Board Crafting), and allow you to craft items with stats in WildStar. You can not only pick what stats you want to put on crafted materials, but you can even "overcharge" the craft (at a higher risk) to get stats higher than normal.
Personally, I never got too deep into the crafting system during my WildStar days. The system seemed overly complex and wasn't appealing to me at all. Granted, it probably wasn't as hard as I made it out, but I just didn't want to learn the system when the gear didn't seem worth it in the end anyway. A lot of that will be changing come free to play. While the core crafting mechanics will remain the same, sockets, charge, talents, power cores, and even schematics will all have new functionality to make CBC more intuitive and coherent.
Crafting stats will fall in line with elemental and stat changes as previously discussed in our stats changing article. You are free to craft gear with stats that don't elementally match the gear's slots, but your risk of crafting failure will obviously increase when you do so.
You can take a look at the full breakdown of changes on the official WildStar website. Hopefully the system yields an easier to use system with a greater potential for useful items.
