Whelp, It Was Fun While It Lasted But You'll Need To Give Overwatch 2 A Phone Number Again
Pre-paid phones have been enabled so now the policy is fully reinstated.
Remember the gold old days of Blizzard backing off a bit and not requiring a phone number on all Overwatch 2 accounts due to a number of issues, including the pre-paid phone issues?
Yeah, those were the days.
No more though. The Overwatch 2 post on the issue has been updated and now phone numbers will be required again as Blizzard has enabled SMS for pre-paid phones.
“Beginning today, we are expanding global SMS Protect access to pre-paid phones. We are excited to welcome more players to Overwatch 2 while continuing our commitment to combating disruptive behavior and protecting the integrity of the player experience. This update may take several hours to roll out completely, and we can’t wait to see you in-game," says the post.
So yeah... good while it lasted I guess.
Note: Activision Blizzard is still under investigation by the state of California for serious harassment charges. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about such actions within his company – and performed some himself – and shielded the perpetrators from consequences.
