Wayfinder's Airship Syndicate Lays Off 12, President And CEO Both Cutting Their Pay
The team says this still isn't the end of Wayfinder.
Back in November, Digital Extremes announced that it was laying off staff and parting ways with Airship Syndicate, the developers of the multiplayer game Wayfinder. Since then, Airship Syndicate has done everything it can to put forth a message that the game wasn't going anywhere, development would continue, and the team was excited to carry the game forward on their own.
Sadly, Airship Syndicate has laid off 12 employees of their own today and Ryan Stefanelli, President, and Joe Madureira, CEO, will be reducing their own pay all in an effort to "continue to operate and deliver great experiences" as the company will "work to secure our future plans."
In a statement to MMOBomb, Airship Syndicate again reiterated that this was not the end of Wayfinder.
"We can confirm that today we had to part ways with 12 of our coworkers. This decision was made to ensure that Airship Syndicate can continue to operate and deliver great experiences. In addition to reducing staff, Ryan Stefanelli, President, and Joe Madureira, CEO, will be reducing their pay while we work to secure our future plans. While challenging, this is not the end for Wayfinder. We’ll be talking more about our future soon."
We've asked follow-up questions to the Airship Syndicate team to see how big the remaining Wayfinder team is and determine if the layoffs impacted a particular department and will update this piece if we hear back.
