Vampire: The Masquerade Battle Royale Coming In 2021 From New Studio Sharkmob
We may never get an MMORPG based on Vampire: The Masquerade (RIP World of Darkness), but there are some other great games based on White Wolf's blood-soaked IP, like Vampire: The Masquerade -- Bloodlines and its upcoming sequel. Given the Kindred's desire for secrecy and subterfuge, it only makes sense that the next game set in that universe would be a high-flying, guns-blazing battle royale ... right?
That's the premise of the first title from Swedish studio Sharkmob, who released the teaser trailer for its upcoming (and yet unnamed) bloodfest on Halloween night, appropriately. Set in Prague, the game will offer solo or team play as players take on each other and "the hostile Entity who's hellbent on exterminating all vampires." A wide range of powers and weapons will be available, and Sharkmob has confirmed that the game's action will take place in third-person. Launch is scheduled for the latter half of 2021.
We don't yet know what kind of payment model the game will feature, but being a battle royale, we'd lean toward it being free-to-play. We scanned the Sharkmob careers page but couldn't find any clues -- i.e., listings that asked for someone "familiar with F2P monetization practices" or similar.
Judging by the brief trailer, the game certainly looks high-quality, but we're not the only ones who think it's a strange combination of IP and game style. Sharkmob will likely face an uphill battle, not only in the development process, but in convincing World of Darkness fans that an all-out war is the style of game they want to play. You can keep track of the game's development on the Sharkmob website.
