Valorant Reveals Gameplay For Its Tide And Torrent-Bending New Agent, Harbor, Ahead Of October 18 Release
The Tuesday patch will also receive a slew of fresh UX/UI interface changes to improve legibility and unify game style.
Hailing from the coast of India, Valorant welcomes a new tide and torrent-bending Controller Agent, Harbor, into its roster on October 18. Ahead of his imminent release, Riot Games published a gameplay video showcasing his water skills in action.
In standard Controller fashion, Harbor excels at cutting the enemy's vision, establishing control across the map, and effectively forcing opponents into choke areas. What makes him unique is the fluid aesthetic of his wall barriers that gracefully flow like channeled water between players and his dome-like shields protecting allies.
Harbor is supportive, but he's not lacking in damage, either. The gameplay video shows a mix of defensive and aggressive matchplay that's perfect for those seeking to fill many roles on their team. The specifics of Harbor's kit of abilities and such are not official yet, but fans can read up on the additional changes coming in next Tuesday's Patch 5.08.
Riot Games' UX, UI, Engineering, and QA teams are rolling out substantial visual changes for Valorant's many interfaces to bring "a fresh sense of style while improving functionality in some areas." A sneak peek of those changes is viewable on the Valorant blog, which displays a new MVP, lobby, pre-match loading, and End of Game screens with designs focused on improving legibility.
"We had a lot of decoration elements that were pretty but didn't really serve a purpose," stated Visual Design Manager Oliver Zumstein in the blog. "We increased the screen's contrast, pushed color values, and simplified our shape language."
On the horizon, Valorant is planning to bring in motion design and overarching visual polish throughout the game. And naturally, all new features coming this year will reflect this fresh visual direction with room for additional enhancement.
