Valorant Coming To Mobile, Celebrating One-Year Launch Anniversary With Events In June
Valorant officially turns one year old today, and Riot Games is celebrating by announcing it will launch it again -- on mobile devices. Valorant on mobile doesn't have a release window yet, but Executive Producer Anna Donlon said that the launch will "soon offer the same competitive Valorant experience to even more global players."
There's a lot of those players already. Riot claims that there are 14 million monthly Valorant players worldwide, and that's only accounting for one planet Earth (we think), not a possible second, as was revealed in yesterday's lore video. Those players completed over half a billion games, though there's no mention of how many of those ended with ragequits.
To celebrate the milestone, Riot is hosting a month's worth of special events, which it dubs "VALORANT YR1." Each event has its own start and end date, and you can see the complete list on the Valorant site. Today's live events include the Night.Market random skin sale; voting on the Give Back Bundle, which lets players vote on what bundles they want back in the store, with 50% of the revenue going to charity; and the first stage of a Player Card Checklist giveaway. At the end of the list, with no date given, is an "event" with the cryptic title "NEW AGENT???"
With the one-year anniversary of launch, Riot also took the time to highlight its competitive tournaments over the previous year. The second major event in the year-long Valorant Champions Tour global series culminated this past weekend in Reykjavík, Iceland, with the VCT: Masters Stage 2, which reportedly had over one million concurrent viewers and 800,000 viewers on average. That's all pretty good for a game that's barely a year old and speaks to bright things to come in Valorant's future.
