Valorant Announces Crack Down On Toxic Players - "We Won't Miss You"
Farewell.
In a video message posted on several social media sites, Valorant studio head Anna Donlon says that the team is cracking down on toxic players and that they can go play something else because "We won't miss you".
There has been a recent string of examples of abusive behavior posted on social media recently, all taking place in the shooter. Obviously, this is not okay behavior under any circumstances.
Donlon says that Valorant has made strides toward combating toxic players, but also acknowledges that they can't always catch everything. Players sanctioned for bad behavior typically don't do it again according to Donlon, and those who do represent a small fraction of the player base.
Riot will be increasing the size of the teams that handle manual reviews of behavior, as they expect an increase in reports after announcing that they are going after offenders. The team will also be broadening the use of the Voice Evaluation systems that evaluate in-game voice communication when reports are submitted. Riot will also be going back to perform a one-time review of top suspected offenders from previous incidents.
It's good to see a company make such a bold statement when it comes to abusive language in a game. Riot says they are not looking to impact typical in-game chatter and even a little trash talking, but that abusive, threatening language has no place in Valorant. Let's hope they can make a difference.
