V Rising Devs Discuss Building A Castle And Stalking The Night
It's a bloody good time.
The new devlog for V Rising begins by saying, "In the wake of the gameplay trailer, we figured everyone might be hungry for some more information on the experience of playing V Rising." That's certainly the truth around MMOBomb, as we can't wait to sink our fangs into more bloody details about the vampire survival game we got a look at last week.
As you might expect, the first part of the blog deals with your recently risen vampire's first steps in the world. The initial gameplay sounds much like it is for other survival games: discover recipes, find resources, and build up an initial base of power. One thing V Rising does differently is make it easier for new players to catch up to their more seasoned allies, by letting the veterans share recipes with their younger partners.
Eventually, you'll want to build a castle, which is "the foundation of a vampire’s progression and the base of their power." As with bases in most survival games, castles will start small and house all your survival needs, like storage and crafting stations, but can expand over time. At the heart of your castle is its Blood Well, which needs to be continually restocked with -- well, you know. Doing so will keep the castle's defenses strong, while neglecting the Blood Well can lead to the castle's deterioration.
When you're not tooling around your domain or chilling in your coffin, you'll want to venture out into the world to hunt. You'll encounter a wide variety of enemies, ranging from simple villagers to powerful monsters that might require friends to defeat. Some resources and skills can't be discovered through simple exploration and can instead only be gained via kills of rare enemies.
Everything in V Rising runs on blood, whether it's your castle's Blood Well or just your vampire's personal reserves. Different beings offer different kinds of blood, each with their own benefits, such as short-term buffs to damage or resource-gathering. Even different humans can have different blood quality, so before you decide on whom to feed, be (AB) positive they'll make for a good snack.
