Upcoming F2P Shooter Exomecha Shows Off Vehicles, Giant Robots, And A Dragon In Slick Trailer
It's not often that a one-minute trailer will make someone as cynical about new games as I am sit up and go "whoa," but that's what happened when I got my first glimpse of Exomecha. The upcoming free-to-play game by TwistedRed Games looks like an infantry-based FPS with vehicles and giant, Transformers-like fighting robots. Oh, and there are also hoverboards, apparently. And a mechanized dragon. Color me intrigued.
The trailer video's description on YouTube calls Exomecha a "free-to-play online competitive first-person shooter" that takes place on the planet Omecha and has "team-based large scale battles, a unique battle royale game mode, and an objective-based game mode." Gameplay will revolve around a "flexible playing style, mechs, unique gadgets and abilities, and boss battles."
That last part leads me to think that the giant robots, including the dragon, are AI-controlled bosses, but I'd like to be proven wrong and find out there's some kind of player control, at least for the bipedal robots. Also, hearing about three different types of game modes, including a battle royale, gives me Crucible flashbacks, and that's never good.
So yeah, I've still got some cynicism -- or maybe "healthy skepticism" -- but Exomecha looks cool enough for me to keep and eye on and hope for the best.
Exomecha is slated to launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2021. You can sign up for the beta on exomecha.com.
