UPDATED: Triad Wars Won't Make it Out of Closed Beta?
UPDATE: After reaching out to Square Enix, the announcement has received an edit to make it clear that Triad Wars will be ending service. "We’ve loved seeing how you’ve played Triad Wars but we know it wasn’t right for many of you so we’re letting you know today that we are going to close the beta and service on January 20th 2016 at 12 p.m."
Surprising news out of the United Front Games camp today as they announced that the Closed Beta for Triad Wars will come to an end on January 20th. The servers will still be up for the next 4 weeks if you want to jump into the game and get your war on, though.
Why is this "surprising" news? Well, the announcement is worded a bit...shall we say...oddly. It reads almost like a "game is closing" message rather than just a "Closed Beta is ending" message. From the game's forums:
Since the start of the Triad Wars Closed Beta this year, diligent Enforcers have run rampant through the streets of Hong Kong, killing rivals and building Empires. During this time we have gathered immense amounts of feedback, information, and data on the game. We’ve loved seeing how you’ve played Triad Wars but we know it wasn’t right for many of you, so we’re letting you know today that we are going to close the beta on January 20th 2016 at 12 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. That’s 4 weeks from today and over this time we’re going to leave the game up and running for you to continue to enjoy but we will not be accepting any more purchases. To help you enjoy these final 4 weeks we’re going to make Gold available free of charge and we’ll shortly be posting news on the forums about how to deal with refunds of unused Gold. Thank you very much for all the testing, feedback and support!
Saying a game "wasn't right for many of you" sounds a lot like a shut down based on lack of a player base.
The forums have also added a post providing instructions on obtaining a refund for any players that bought gold in December. It wouldn't be surprising to me to see that the shut down is in full though, seeing how I wasn't alone in being a bit put off by the game's lack of true multiplayer.
We've reached out to Square Enix to provide some clarification on the future of Triad Wars and will update you as soon as we hear back. But by the looks of it, Triad Wars may be a goner.

offline games are released for free before they are available in stores , kickstarter games never get out of alpha stage, and most mmo close after few weeks/months....(open beta of course)

I'll admit I had some fun with it the few times I played, but it lacked the spirit of the original game as in well written characters and whatnot.
Really hope that United Front decides to make a full and proper sequel to Sleeping Dogs soon.
