Tibia’s First New Playable Class Since The Game’s Launch In ‘1997 Is Proving Popular With Players
And it hasn’t even left testing yet.
If you’re going to wait nearly three decades to add a new class to a game after its launch, you really need to do something special. As is the case with Tibia. For 28 years, the game has offered players four vocations: Knight, Paladin, Sorcerer, and Druid. But the devs decided that it’s time to add another to that lineup and have been working hard to bring the Monk to the game.
Recently, CipSoft offered players of the MMORPG a chance to try out the new class as part of a test. The Monk proved popular enough that players asked for the test to be extended through this past weekend, and the developers obliged. The game’s project manager Niadus has since stated that “while tweaks still need to be made, the first tests have revealed a vocation that not only adds new opportunities for players but also stays true to the spirit of Tibia”.
That’s good news for the devs who have been hard at work on the Monk. According to the team, the development of the Monk has resulted in more than 130,000 lines of game code needing to be adapted in order to introduce the class. That doesn’t even account for the overall design of the class. For those interested, details on the work being done to implement the class can be found in posts on the official site. If some of you would like a chance to check out the Monk before it releases, another test period is scheduled from March 18 to March 25. Premium players will have access on the 18th. Non-premium players will have to wait until March 24 for a chance to test it.
