This Week At Bungie Mentions A Lot, But Only A Little About The New Player Bans To Those Who Leave Casual Control Matches
Of all the things to leave out of the patch notes...
Guardians, be warned, as the most recent Destiny 2 update has players being banned for leaving casual Control Matches. The 6v6 game mode was perfect for anyone looking for a stress-free experience to enjoy some "casual" PvP action. That at least was the case before Bungie decidedly began to categorize the mode as "competitive" and began banning players who leave without finishing matches. TO be fair, there wasn't really any official classification of the mode being "casual" to begin with.
As one can imagine, the PvP community is upset. One YouTuber, Shadow Destiny, brought up a good point on Twitter. “Quitter penalties do not belong in a casual playlist. In a world where we have no map voting and 50% of lobbies have terrible lag or 6 stacks, you should be able to leave if you want.”
While this change has affected a large community in Destiny 2, it was not even mentioned in their initial patch notes that usually addresses the inner happenings and what's to come in-game. Bungie did add it to their "This Week at Bungie" post along with mentions of product security to protect players from cheating and the game’s new Eruption mode that took over Iron Banner.
There was even one section titled, ‘Quitter Penalty,’ that did say: “...we would like to actively discourage quitting, as it can negatively impact the remaining players.” However, it should be noted that this was in regard to competitive play. The team currently has Control linked to that competitive suspension timer and says they are working on separating those timers in the future.
Players who would like to read the full post by Bungie can do so on the weekly blog. Hopefully, the changes to Control Matches will be fixed soon with all the online backlash, but only time will tell.
