RuneScape is an MMORPG that will seemingly never die. Every time you begin to think the MMO may be on its last leg it rises again, like a Phoenix from the ashes. The latest incarnation of RuneScape changes the aesthetic landscape of the world of Gielinor once again, and this time it moves it more inline with other modern browser based MMOs.

Utilizing a new HTML 5 engine, players who enter RuneScape 3 will see a massive improvement in graphic quality, longer draw distances, new audio, new design features and a world changing content update as the game moves into its 6th age. According to Phil Mansell RunesScape's Executive Producer, "RuneScape 3 is going to run faster, look better and feel so much more immersive".

The update isn't limited to just the looks of the game though. RuneScape’s Creative Director, Mark Ogilvie commented, “RuneScape 3 marks a significant moment in RuneScape’s history as the world enters the 6th Age. All our recent content updates have been building up to this point, massive change is coming, and our players will be able to shape the game with the choices they make. Every single player will have the ability to shape the world.”

More details will be made available in the coming weeks. Until then, you can check out the RuneScape 3 video announcement above.

The screenshots look pretty (although the proportional size of players to buildings looks weird), but that's not what made RS great, and that's not why people are fleeing for their lives from the shitstorm that is "EOC" to the old school servers. The whole video they gush about the graphics and a bit about the story. RS is about having a vast open world, dozens of skills to train, grinding and working hard to achieve something over a long period of time, and constantly being at risk of losing valuable items you've obtained if you die. Detailing those aspects is how they should have announced the game.

Wow so it'll have the graphics of the first Everquest from 1999? Pfft. Yes let's please settle for less just because it's "free"...oh wait, tons of games nowadays are free and both look and play better. Clue in Jagex. Being free is not an excuse anymore. There are dozens of studios who produce games that both look and play better and demand not a penny. Anyone who is going to play this is settling for less..and that is sad. Demand more. Gamers these days control the market. Being complacent and lazy will get you crap like this and the annual CoD release of "more of the same".

Demand more. Expect more. We drive the market. Free is not an excuse to look and play like a pre-year 2000 mmo.

I'd like to play and look for people to hang with in a new launch game. Age of Wushu's first impressions looks good so far.

I used to enjoy playing RS would then take a break and come back, and like always they destroy the game then try to implement changes to get the players back, The first destruction was with the GE and limited trades, Second was the Evo of combat which was TERRIBLE takes away the specials of items so your items are essentially shit and add skills which are pointless.

I have nothing against grinding games, actually I love grinding games, but what kind of grind is what i'm looking at O.O, To all the people who hate grinding, stop playing MMORPGs, Grindings normal in them. Its a fact!

Never trust a fat guy.... whatever the fat guy is selling to you they only will think how much money they will spend in food.... this title is a waste of time and cash i think.

These damn idiots... Runescape is still up, for more than 10 years... you say its shit?...
no there's a reason, that your tiny little brains cannot find.... its simply unique, ever since it began there's nothing like Runescape. Every single RPG until now was the same as the other before, Runescape is the only exception.
The economy and grinding is surely hard, but that just makes it more worthwhile, than a game you can get to the max level in 3 months. The EoC was surely necessary, one of the biggest complaints about Runescape was ALWAYS the combat system, now they did something about it, they created an unique battle system that differs from any other, and all they do is complain, because they can't see how bad it was before.

Everyone says it was better when they were children, and played it years ago, that's because everything looked better when you where a children. Now they are making it actually better, but all they think about is how it was before.
Do you still like the cartoon you watched when you were 5? Watch it again an you'll know its shit now. Runescape isn't like that, they abandoned the past, and moved on.

But haters and mindless gamers who think hunting the same monster for hours in a 3D graphically extravagant non-innovative world is gaming, will surely hate.

God I hate the amount of grinding one needs to do. I say Runescape used to be fun for us back when we were noobs because we didn't know much about it. Now that we know a lot more about it you want to have the best stuff even when you don't have enough money. Lastly I don't want to spend 1 or more hour(s) just to level up once in a certain skill doing repetitive tasks. That is what made me lose interest in the game. The intensity of the the grinding one needs to do to get any were.

I played a lot of RuneScape when I was younger, and it was really fun, the quests and the skills and ways of leveling were pretty cool, and I always loved the holy days events, and when I stopped playing, the graphics were not the major reason, but kinda got tired of everything not chancing much. I may give this a try for the old times and see if they didn't change what made it good and did some good improvements.
