Things Are Changing Quickly In The Elder Scrolls Online’s Newest Zone, West Weald
And not necessarily for the better.
When the Gold Road update drops in The Elder Scrolls Online on June 3 (June 18 for consoles), it will introduce the new West Weald zone and all its related content. Zenimax wants players of the MMORPG to know what they’ll be getting themselves into, so today they dropped a preview of the new zone, and it looks like things will be interesting.
First off, West Weald isn’t one of those zones that’s all one thing. Instead, it’s broken into three regions – one of which just kind of popped up overnight and attracted Wood Elves. That’s an obvious danger of spontaneous jungle growth: a booming Wood Elf population. They followed their king, Nantharion, as he ‘followed nature’ there – only to discover that there were people already there. Other than the surprise, it seems the Wood Elves don’t pose too much of a problem for the region.
The new jungle is along West Weald’s southwest border. As for the other two areas, one is the Gold Road. The other is the Colovian Highlands. Both are home to Imperials and are ruled by Count Calantius.
Just as a jungle popped up overnight, West Weald also has a sudden influx of Mirrormoor Incursions filled with Daedra. No one knows where they come from or why, so that’s another mystery to solve.
A final mystery is a new area known as the Wildburn. This is tied to the new jungle and appears to be where the magic that introduced the jungle decimated the local plants and wildlife. It destroyed the land and corrupted the creatures already living there.
It seems unlikely that the new jungle and Wildburn are unrelated to the Mirrormoor Incursions, although it is possible. Obviously, players will have to figure out what’s going on, if they’re to help the citizens of West Weald.
