The Second Chance Given To MultiVersus Is Coming To An End, Shutdown Scheduled For May
There will still be an offline version, but you need to snag the game before Season 5 ends.
You may remember that bacin in 2023, MultiVersus went into an open beta that was then shut down and the game's launch was scrapped. While the brawler's team said they were taking things down to rethink the game's direction (mainly due to player loss) and maybe even think about adding some PvE content, we speculated that we may never hear from the WB Games title ever again.
However, we were wrong on that front. MultiVersus did actually return in May of 2024. The game received multiple updates, new roster additions, new modes, and even included one of Kevin Conroy's final portrayals of Batman. Things were kind of looking up.
Then the finances starting coming in...
Sadly, MultiVersus was lumped into a bucket with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League by WB Games during financial reports. If you know anything about that game, you know it isn't a game you want to appear alongside of in a financial report. Hell, recently WB Interactive's president decided to step down after all the turmoil of the last year or so.
MultiVersus will share the same fate dished out to Suicide Squad. Season 5 will release on February 4th as planned, and both new characters, Aquaman and Lola, will be made available for players right away. All Season 5 rewards will be able to be earned through gameplay. That marks the end, though.
On May 30th, online servers will shut down. If you play during Season 5, however, you will be able to update your client so that after shutdown you can still play the game offline against AI opponents or in local co-op with up to 3 friends.
Just make sure you log in during Season 5 so your local save file gets created on your platform of choice. If you haven't played yet, you may want to just go claim the game on a platform as you won't be able to download it after May 30th.
Cash shop currency purchases have been disabled today, but you can still spend any currency you do have until Season 5 is over.
This time, I don't see a "rerun" coming for MultiVersus. Sad. It really only made it one year since its latest launch.
