The Rumors Were True, JAGEX Is Being Sold Again
An official deal with CVC Capital Partners was announced today.
It’s actually happening. Two days after we told you about the rumor that JAGEX might be up for sale again, private equity firm CVC Capital Partners and current owner Carlyle announced today that an agreement has been made. Of course, they’re just at the handshake stage at this point. As we all know, these kinds of things have to pass regulatory review before the deal can be finalized.
Press releases about the deal were released today. One came from JAGEX itself, via email, but Carlyle’s release is pretty similar for those interested in reading it. They discuss the developer’s history, the fact that it currently employs around 700 staff, and how Carlyle invested in the company – as well as the acquisition of SCUM developer Gamepires in 2022.
There is one thing that was not included in the press releases, which is the sale price. That said, they do describe Runescape as being a “$1.5 billion lifetime revenue franchise”.
