new world open beta launch day

I'm very curious to see how players, particularly PC players, react when they get their first public chance to step into New Word: Aeternum today. Console players that never checked out the original PC version of the MMORPG don't have a basis for comparison to anything, but PC players have been the ones kind of dragged along by Amazon Games when it comes to New World.

Today, we'll start to get some of the answers to those questions when the New World: Aeternum's open beta goes live in about 40 minutes...provided there aren't any issues or delays. I have to get in there myself before I give any opinions. I was provided early access to the open beta as part of a press event, but I had a very bizarre technical issue that prevented me from playing it at all. This issue seemed limited to me as other sites were able to access things just fine, so I'm not going to let that cloud my judgement in any meaningful way, that wouldn't be fair. The team was helpful and it was clearly a very isolated incident.

That said, what will PC players think of the shift away from more "MMO" type content to more "co-op" type content? Will the revamped leveling and new systems be enough of a "gain" in their eyes to make the wait they had forced upon them worth it? I think it's a tough sell, there's a large portion of the New World PC base that feels strung along.

Let me know what you think once you're in.

Remember, there's rewards for getting to particular milestones in the open beta and you'll only have until the 16th to hit those marks. Your open beta progress does not carry over into launch on October 15th and while you don't need the PS Plus or Xbox subscriptions to play in beta, you will need it if you buy the game at launch.
