Free and Furious: Ridge Racer Free-to-Play Announced
Namco's long running racing series Ridge Racer is set to get a new installment this year. The series originally debuted in 1994 with the majority of the subsequent sequels released on consoles and arcade machines. Now the latest version of Ridge Racer has the series is getting a new PC version (along with an accompanying PS3 release) which just so happens to also be free-to-play.
Ridge Racer: Driftopia is being developed by Bugbear Entertainment, who worked on the last entry of the series which was released in 2012 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC although it was not F2P.
The gameplay announcement trailer -shown above- showcases some of the games various collectible vehicles and powerups. We can also expect destructible vehicles/environments and lots of drifting, lots. In terms of the game's cash shop, the trailer hints at purchasable vehicle packs of varying qualities, boosts, repair kits and most likely cosmetic upgrades. For those of us who like to see our cars decked out in Neon Green underlights.
