The Division 2's New Seasons 2.0 Structure Has Players Worried, And A New FAQ Doesn't Really Help
Spending years playing a "main" character just to find out that they won't have much to do is making some concerned.
I literally JUST jumped back into Tom Clancy's The DIvision 2 two weeks ago. I haven't played in years and was never very deep into the game back then anyway. I'm having fun right now and likely could for a while since I'm "new." What about those that have played for years, though?
Last week, Ubisoft's The Division 2 announced some pretty big changes. In addition to base game owners getting access to the previously expansion-only Level 40 cap (a good thing), the looter-shooter also announced a total revamp to how Seasons impact the game.
These new seasons were met with quite a bit of blowback from long-term players since they focus on a seasonal character, one that gets reset every season, rather than provide new content for the characters people spent years playing. In response to that pushback, Ubisoft dropped a new FAQ dedicated to talking about Seasons 2.0. Sadly, it doesn't really help if playing your main was your...well..."main" concern.
It's not that seasonal content in and of itself isn't something the community wants, hell seasons have been here since 2020, but it's the lack of anything seemingly meaningful for your main to do.
In the FAQ the team states that these new seasonal characters are meant to "transform the entire experience" since considering the power level and progressions across the board for all players makes "it nearly impossible to create a well-balanced experience that is enjoyable for all."
Fine, I get that. Power creep happens and when the audience goes wide across the spectrum, this makes sense.
However, your main gets left in the dust. Sure, they'll be getting all the rewards your seasonal character gathers, but not until the very end of the season. You can only bring your main into the season during the "Intermission" period, which runs the final two weeks of each 17 week season.
Sure, playing a seasonal character could be fun since each season has different modifiers, everyone starts out at level one, leveling is sped up, and activities can be tackled as you see fit without having to do the same things each season, but the limitation on main characters seems to just be a way to keep "god-level" characters from running around. Modifiers for each season are PvE only and seasonal and non-seasonal characters will have their own Dark Zone pools for PvP.
Ubisoft says that mains "remain the foundation of the account" and specifically mentions future DLCs, but the FAQ also states that "Right now, there are no intentions to introduce another Incursion or Raid." Your non-seasonal characters will be the only ones that can access Legacy Manhunts...so there's that.
It's not what The Division 2 players wanted, that's for sure, and it concerns me just the way the team worded one of the FAQs. Keep in mind they typed this to my knowledge. This wasn't an AMA or anything. If it were, I'd like to think they would change or remove the percentage mentioned in the question in the final post to make it more representative of reality. As it is, I have to believe that they either A) internally clocked it at 90% or B) believe that to be a somewhat accurate representation:
Q: What is the point of keeping your main character if you can't use them for 90% of future content coming to the game?
Just...oof.
