That's so Meta: Neverwinter to add Tabletop Experience inside MMO
April 1st is tomorrow and that means game developers are about to partake in the age old tradition of spoofing their own titles with ridiculous nonsense that will clearly never actually see the light of day, or will it? The uncertainty stems in part from Cryptic Studios latest revelation, a plan to add an actual tabletop experience within Neverwinter, the very MMO inspired by a tabletop. Very meta, and very possibly a hoax, or not.
The premise is simple, starting tomorrow April 1st through April 4th, players will be able to embark on a journey across a table utilizing mini-me versions of your very own character within Neverwinter. Cryptic appears to have an eye for detail as the miniatures come with their own bases, while the maps (of which there are two) made of grid paper and cardboard dividers sets the stage for the adventure at hand. There's even appropriate snacks on hand with Lathander’s Dew and the sweet chewy Neverwintan Red Veins.
Accompanying players on their mini-expedition are a few of Neverwinter's well known heroes players encounter across the realm with the mischievous mage Respen Durothil serving as Dungeon Master. Unfortunately this probably means co-operative play with real players isn't in the cards or should I say, dice.
There's even talks of rewards being handed out in the form of a friendly Green Slime Companion and a stat-boosting pet.
